April 2020

What a difference a month makes! Going a bit stir crazy with the little ones in your life while social distancing? Maybe it's time to check out our e-book library for free or some of the kids' activities or coloring pages on our website for a change of pace. For older kids, check out our Non-profit Highlight section below for some more academic challenges available from Inspired Classroom; we'll be working with them on a new challenge soon. After all, variety is the spice of life!

Belize Trash Monster

Our newest book, The Belize Trash Monster, should be arriving this month, just in time for the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day! It features the Green Kids, Maya, Victor and Tiago, trying to stop a Trash Monster from invading beautiful Belize.

April Observances

April is National Frog Month and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, as well as these specific animal observations:

Tapir Facts

In honor of World Tapir Day (April 27), let's learn about this species you may not know much about. Tapirs are herbivores and are related to horses and rhinos. Three types of tapirs live in Central and South America, while one kind lives in Asia, but all tapirs are considered endangered. They have a snout that they can use like an elephant does to grab things, put food in their mouth, or even to snorkel with, since they are excellent swimmers. Baby tapirs are striped or spotted, much like baby deer.

Monthly Challenge

These truly are unprecedented times we are living in. With travel restrictions and economic activity down because of COVID-19, some researchers are reporting significant drops in global emissions. Our challenge this month is simply to remain healthy and to recognize this small time for the earth (and us) to hopefully slow down a little. It's a great time of year to get out for some fresh air, appreciate nature, and keep a safe distance from your fellow humans. These nature walks are a great way to safely celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day or if you can, plant a tree for Arbor Day. Stay safe out there!

Inspired Classroom works with non-profit organizations to bring classroom challenges to children around the world by virtually connecting organizations that have rich, educational content centered around a specific subject, with educators who seek to engage learners with authentic experiences. Inspired Classroom's challenges are standards-based and have been built in collaboration between curriculum and content experts. They are FREE to participants and use an inquiry-based approach to learning and build skills such as critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication.
