March 2021
Ever wonder what it's like to be a bear in winter? Or how on earth to get four kids to go to sleep and stay there? Grizzly 399's Hibernation Pandemonium is a fun tale about Grizzly 399 and her four cubs during their first hibernation. We hope to have it out by the time the bears emerge from their hibernation this spring!
Green Kids Club will be hosting a virtual fundraiser in April for our friends at Elephants Without Borders (EWB). We'll have lots of great items for sale, including books, t-shirts, and even a paw print from Molelo himself! All proceeds will go directly to the work that EWB is doing for elephant conservation in Botswana.
We're also working with Save Elephant Foundation (see Partner Highlight below) on a new edition of our Jade Elephant story, which focuses on Asian elephants. We're excited to revisit this story with a new interpretation and beautiful artwork, which should be out later this spring.
March Observances
March is Dolphin Awareness Month, and has observations for lots of animals:
Dolphin Facts
March is Dolphin Awareness Month. 41 species of dolphins are found all over the world, in both freshwater and saltwater, 7-9 of which are considered to be endangered. Dolphins are classified as mammals, but only have a little hair when they are first born that falls out soon after. Dolphins have excellent eyesight, as their eyes are specially designed to see above and below water. They also have a great sense of hearing and use echolocation to find fish to eat. Dolphins are highly intelligent, working together with their pod (10-12 dolphins) to trap fish, communicating with a vast array of sounds, and even recognizing themselves in a mirror.
Monthly Challenge
What is the value of water? For people all over the world, water is health, hygiene, crops, livelihood, or religious connection. How do we protect and conserve the water that we have for generations to come? March 22 is World Water Day and asks the question "what does water mean to you? Share your views on social media. Tag your post with #WorldWaterDay and #Water2me. Your voice will help shape the World Water Day 2021 campaign and will inform a document about what water means to people around the world."
