July 14th is World Orca Day
Our Newsletter is a tad late for this day - but we still celebrate the day of orcas knowing that we will soon have a book out highlighting the story of an orca named Skali.
Saving Skali follows the tragic but ultimately hope-filled story of a young orca who is brutally snatched from her family pod from the ocean off Seattle and sent to perform in a marine circus in Miami. Over the course of 50 years, Jeff, the young hunter, who captured Skali, meets and falls in love with a Native American girl, who teaches him the error of his ways about her tribe’s oneness with nature. Jeff resolves to go and rescue Skali who’s spent 5 decades in a tiny tank in Miami…and return her to her native waters off the Pacific Northwest to be reunited with her family. Based on a true story written by Phil Fairclough and Sylvia Medina.
